What Web Accessibility is

An accessible site allows visitors with disabilities to navigate the website with the same level of ease and enjoyment as other visitors, or with a similar level. This can be achieved thanks to the features of the platform on which the site is based and through assistive technologies.

Accessibility adaptations on this site

I follow the WCAG 2.2 Level AA guidelines, the latest version of the standard, including the criteria it introduced over WCAG 2.1 (such as minimum touch-target size). The contents are optimized to work with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard navigation, and I work to improve accessibility continuously. In particular, I have:

  • Set the language of the site: allows screen reader users and other tools to correctly identify the language of the content.
  • Defined the order of the contents of the site's pages: ensures logical and predictable navigation for all users, with a main landmark and a "skip to content" link.
  • Established clear heading structures on all the site's pages: organizes the content in a structured way and facilitates navigation.
  • Added alternative text to images: provides a textual description of the image content for screen reader users and for those with visual impairments.
  • Implemented color combinations that meet the required contrast: improves the readability of the text for users with vision problems.
  • A control to stop the animations: at the bottom of every page there is a "Reduce animations" button, which stops everything that moves on its own (the starfield background, the comet, the technology ribbon) and stays set on your next visits. You get the same result by enabling reduced motion on your device (prefers-reduced-motion), under Settings → Accessibility → "Visual effects" / "Reduce motion" on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android: when that is on, the site respects it without you touching the button.
  • Accessible forms: labels associated with fields, errors announced to assistive technologies (aria-invalid, role="alert") and focus moved automatically to the first invalid field.
  • Accessible mobile navigation: the menu opens via keyboard, closes with Esc and returns focus to the toggle button.
  • Adequate touch targets: buttons, links and controls are sized for touch use (WCAG 2.2 "Target Size" criterion).
  • Visible focus indicator: links and controls clearly show when they are selected via keyboard.
  • External links flagged: across the whole site, links to external pages show a dedicated icon, so you know in advance the link leaves the site.

Conformance status

This statement reflects an internal self-assessment, not a third-party or government audit. No departures from WCAG 2.2 Level AA are currently known; if you find one, please report it through the contacts below and I'll verify and fix it.
