What it funds

Innofounder is the program Denmark's innovation fund uses to turn an idea into a company: a monthly grant that lets founders work full time on the idea for the whole program, a separate grant for development costs, and mentoring plus exchange with other founders. Candidates apply alone or as a team, through the program page. The mechanism to grasp before applying: the monthly grant is not a tied salary, the company decides how much goes to the founder and how much serves other purposes; the development grant instead covers only services and materials tied to moving the idea forward, not running costs. The program opens in rounds, with part of the funds reserved for the call's themes and a line for off-theme ideas.

Requirements and what is left out

  • Anyone without a completed higher-education degree by the start of the program: it is the entry gate, and it applies to every founder on the team.
  • Anyone unable to give the company full time or holding only a minor stake: both are required, and other paid or study activities stay within a weekly cap.
  • Anyone without a Danish company at the start: no company number is needed to apply, but the company must exist and be young when the program begins, and be built around the idea.
  • Anyone already selling steadily or looking only for marketing and scale: the idea must be innovative and past the earliest stage, yet not market-ready nor already funded with other capital.
  • Anyone admitted to the program before with the same company: there is no second entry.
  • Combining aid is allowed up to a ceiling: other public aid on the same costs stays possible while the total stays within the European caps of the regime, which the guidelines state per founder count. Stacking aid without doing that arithmetic risks having to repay the excess.

How to apply

  1. Read the round's guidelines, with themes, annexes and assessment criteria, before writing a line.
  2. File on the e-grant portal before the window closes: afterwards nothing can be corrected.
  3. If the idea passes the first screening, prepare the pitch before the panel: that is where the decision happens.
  4. On approval, sign the commitment letter within the deadline and found the Danish company if it is missing: payments start only after that.

Answers land on the portal, on the timeline stated on the program page; the program runs a year and closes with final accounts and an evaluation.

What this budget builds

With a full-time year I take an idea past the prototype: systematic validation with real users, a first model on the company's data with the metrics to judge it, and a product architecture chosen to last. I work side by side with the founding team, so the ability to carry the product forward stays behind: a company that stands on its own when the grant ends.

This entry is informational and is not advice: I do not handle grant applications, and before committing to a purchase it is worth reading the official source above or talking to whoever files the application.
